WordPress Essentials Class
Learn the essentials of using WordPress for your business website or blog.
To take this class, you will need approval of the instructor. Also, you will want to have a laptop that you can bring to class, if you would like to follow along during class.
Week 1 - Planning Your Site - Define the objectives and purpose of your site and plan for design and content; learn how WordPress Themes are used to create your design, and how the WordPress theme and database system work together to organize your content. We’ll take a high level look at the different things you can do as a WordPress Administrator, and begin learning about creating Posts and Pages.
Week 2 – Customizing Your Site - Customizing wordpress with plugins and widgets. We’ll also discuss more advanced customization using custom functions and custom CSS. We’ll spend much of this class working with plugins – how to find options and pick the best ones for your needs, and how to work with specific examples. Examples will include Gallery Plugins, Contact Form Plugins, and others based on requests from students.
Week 3- SEO & Online Marketing - Search Engine Optimization basics, from researching keywords to using tools provided by WordPress Themes and/or Plugins to manage on-page SEO. We will work on strategies to develop and optimize content, including photos and other graphics.
Week 4- Launching, Marketing, and Maintaining Your Site - We’ll look at some plugins that are useful for launching and managing WordPress sites. Also, we’ll discuss how you can use Google Analytics to measure the results you are getting, and how to use that information to make improvements. Finally, we’ll discuss what you need to know about keeping WordPress and the plugins you use up to date, to keep your site secure and running smoothly.
